The condition of a man a Dare County Sheriff’s Office deputy shot during a traffic stop early Sunday morning remains unknown as of Monday afternoon, as are many details of the shooting.

Unspecified injuries were reported after an officer-involved shooting took place in Hatteras Village late Thursday night.

Five days after a Manteo police officer fatally shot a resident, the district attorney released a statement that the shooting was “tragic” but “lawful,” meaning he will not file charges against the officer. The SBI investigation remains ongoing.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation on Monday afternoon released the name of the officer with the Manteo Police Department who was involved in the fatal officer-involved shooting on Mother Vineyard Road last Thursday.

A Manteo police officer discharged their firearm after being “confronted by an armed subject” on Thursday afternoon, and the latter died at the scene, according to a press release from the Dare County Sheriff’s Office.
