MANTEO — A Manteo police officer discharged their firearm after being “confronted by an armed subject” around 4:20 p.m. on Thursday, and the latter died at the scene, according to a press release the Dare County Sheriff’s Office issued around 9:15 p.m.

 

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) is investigating the officer-involved shooting, a spokesperson confirmed to Outer Banks Insider on Friday morning.

 

The name of the deceased is Denny Winslow, a 49-year-old woman, SBI Public Information Director Chad Flowers said in a Friday afternoon email.
