Manteo High School’s varsity men’s soccer team made history when it won the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 2A State Championship on Friday.

A First Flight High School junior recently won the 4A women’s cross country state championship.

A Manteo couple jumped out of an airplane together 108 times on Monday, unofficially besting the 14-year-standing Guinness World Record of 105 tandem skydives in one day.

Both Manteo High School’s junior varsity and varsity soccer teams reigned victorious over First Flight High School at the latter’s home field in Kill Devil Hills in the inaugural battle between the Dare County rivals for the Cobia Cup on Monday.

A Manteo couple will attempt to break a skydiving world record at their business location on Monday, Sept. 22, by jumping out of an airplane together over 105 times.

While it was not an agenda item, the Dare County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted Monday to allocate no more than $20,000 toward a baseball nonprofit organization for a regional youth tournament hosted in Dare County this summer.

About 600 people braved the cold Atlantic Ocean on Saturday by Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head to benefit local Special Olympics athletes.

“They call women kneeboarders ‘unicorns,’” said Patti Hook, who recently won second place in the kneeboarding world championships.
