Outer Banks July 4 week ‘not quite as challenging as last year,’ some public safety agencies find

The July 4 week, typically considered the busiest week of the summer season on the Outer Banks, saw increased public safety agency work as anticipated, but some agencies reported fewer incidents than occurred during last year’s Independence Day week.
A spokesperson for the North Carolina State Highway Patrol reported one fatal vehicle accident the week of July 4, compared to two fatal crashes last year. Highway Patrol officers issued 378 charges across Currituck and Dare counties during the week of July 4, compared to 492 charges last year.
