MANTEO — In this year’s municipal election for the Town of Manteo, two candidates are running for the contested mayor seat, while three other candidates are running unopposed for three open town council seats.

Betty Govan Selby, acting mayor and mayor pro tem for the past six years, and Tod Clissold, a three-year incumbent town commissioner, each filed to run for mayor of Manteo. Former Mayor Sherry Wickstrom, who was elected in 2023, resigned in July.

Incumbent commissioners James Michael Basnight, who goes by his middle name, Edward “Eddie” Mann and Ruth Jane Stetson are each running unopposed for reelection.
