MANTEO — The Dare County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in providing information related to an incident last Monday, Aug. 25, in Manteo, that resulted in serious injuries to two people.

Deputies from the Dare County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an unconscious person in the area of Lindsey Lane and S California Lane in Manteo at 8:21 p.m. on Aug. 25, according to a press release sent Wednesday afternoon.

“Once on scene, deputies identified two individuals who had serious injuries,” the release said. Dare County Emergency Medical Services transported the people to area hospitals for further treatment.

“The Dare County Sheriff's Office is requesting the public’s assistance for any information that might be relevant to this incident,” the release said.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol 1st Sgt. S. D. Hurley told Outer Banks Insider Wednesday afternoon that names are not yet being released.

The joint investigation by the Dare County Sheriff’s Office and the Highway Patrol is ongoing.

One person was transported to the Outer Banks Health Hospital in Nags Head with “non-life-threatening injuries” and was released either that night or the next morning, while the other person was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia, and, “The last I heard, they’re still there,” Hurley said.

“No one was shot, and as far as how the injuries occurred…that’s part of the investigation,” Hurley said.

He added that he hopes to have more information to share on the incident on Thursday.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Dare County Sheriff’s Office at 252-475-5980.
