Election 2026: Currituck voters to decide if school board races switch from nonpartisan to partisan

CURRITUCK — Among other selections on Currituck County voters’ ballots this fall is a box to check to either “for” or “against” changing board of education elections from nonpartisan to partisan races.
The Currituck County Board of Commissioners, without seeking input from the county board of education, in 2025 passed a resolution requesting that state legislators enact local legislation to put the matter on the 2026 ballot, according to the chairs of both the commissioners and of the school board.
