Currituck County High School’s former athletic director pleaded not guilty but was found guilty of and sentenced for misdemeanor “reckless driving causing serious bodily injury” in the case where his truck struck a high school student during track practice.

The parents of a Currituck County High School sophomore who was seriously injured when struck during track practice by a vehicle allegedly driven by the school’s then-athletic director said they are “hurt and sad” on many levels as they await a court date and more answers in the case that has profoundly affected their daughter’s life.

A Kill Devil Hills teen is being charged as an adult with two felony charges, one of which is first-degree murder, in connection with Thursday’s fatal shooting at Avalon Pier, according to the district attorney.
