MANTEO — Of the seven-member Dare County Board of Commissioners, five seats came up for election this year.

Two of those open seats were decided by the March 5 primary election. Just under a quarter of Dare County’s registered voters cast ballots, but less than 16% of county voters decided these two races, according to North Carolina State Board of Elections data.

Three of the open seats will be decided in the 2024 general election. While candidates run based on geography to represent a specific area of Dare County, those elected make decisions affecting the whole county. Board members serve four-year terms.
