The parents of a Currituck County High School sophomore who was seriously injured when struck during track practice by a vehicle allegedly driven by the school’s then-athletic director said they are “hurt and sad” on many levels as they await a court date and more answers in the case that has profoundly affected their daughter’s life.

An 84-year-old Kill Devil Hills man died three days after being struck by a mail carrier vehicle as he was checking his mailbox, according to the Kill Devil Hills Police Department.
