Hatteras Island residents waiting at the emergency ferry terminal in Stumpy Point on Monday afternoon expressed both appreciation for the route and staff and frustration that a more permanent road solution is not underway.

The Ocracoke Express passenger ferry that runs between Hatteras Island and Ocracoke Island begins its eighth season of summer service on Tuesday, May 5.

The Bodie Island Lighthouse opens for climbing on Friday, April 18, and will be open daily through Monday, Oct. 13.
