The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton was originally expected to reopen this summer following a planned 18-month historic restoration project, but the National Park Service announced that the timeline has been set back by about a year after unexpected structural support issues were uncovered in its top section.

The Bodie Island Lighthouse opens for climbing on Friday, April 18, and will be open daily through Monday, Oct. 13.
