Hatteras Island residents waiting at the emergency ferry terminal in Stumpy Point on Monday afternoon expressed both appreciation for the route and staff and frustration that a more permanent road solution is not underway.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) held three public meetings last week in three Dare County locations as part of its public input gathering process to work toward determining what solution or solutions may be feasible and publicly desirable for N.C. Highway 12 on Pea Island.
