The only full-day, year-round licensed child care facility on Hatteras Island is closing in October, to the dismay of residents and child care advocates.

A 40-year-old man from Whiteville pushed his wife out of a moving vehicle, ran her over, seriously injuring her, and kept driving on N.C. Highway 12 in Hatteras at the start of this month, court documents allege.

A Newport News, Virginia, woman was charged with “left of center” following a head-on collision Tuesday in Waves that ultimately resulted in her husband’s death, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
