A parent involved in establishing a new nonprofit said Dare County commissioners providing up to $35,000 in funding for the planned Frisco child care center is "a huge step forward in restoring child care access on Hatteras Island."

The only full-day, year-round licensed child care facility on Hatteras Island is closing in October, to the dismay of residents and child care advocates.
